The Hospital in the Home (HITH) Society of Australasia is proud to present their 3^rd Annual Scientific Conference to be held on Thursday 18^th & Friday 19^th November 2010.

In 2009 the conference was attended by 150 delegates from across Australia and New Zealand and we anticipate attracting even greater representation in 2010. The theme for the 2010 conference is HITH: THE HIGHWAY TO HEALTH - The right treatment at the right time in the right place. This year the conference will focus on the breakthroughs in Hospital in the Home (HITH): new trials and new services. The program content will reflect the broad spectrum of HITH care provision. In addition to providing breakthroughs in HITH care, the conference will also present updates on current efforts in development of HITH services.

The conference will provide new ideas and evidence based practice to improve the management of patients, and staff, for those with well-established and just-started HITH or CAPAC services, out there on the Highway to Health.

A number of exhibitors are being sought whose products are important to HITH service provision. We ask that exhibitors demonstrate their latest product information and resources.

HITH Society Information

The HITH Society is the peak body representing doctors, nurses, allied health, and other health care workers in Australia, Asia & the Pacific who provide Hospital in the Home (HITH) care. The Society provides education, promotes networking and through its Executive Council, represents its members by providing expert commentary and lobbying Governments at a local and Federal level on HITH issues. The Society has made recent representations to the National Health & Hospital Reform Commission, the Special Commission of Inquiry – Acute Care Services in NSW Public Hospitals (Garling Enquiry) and the Primary Health Care Commission 2008/9.

Recently, Ambulatory Care Australia (ACA) who were the original resource for all HITH matters in Australia, have asked HITH Society Australasia to assume responsibility as the single HITH organisation representing health professionals in Australia, as they are moving their organisation to concentrate solely on Disease Management. It is an exciting time for HITH service provision and the HITH Society Australasia.

What is Hospital in the Home or HITH?

For the purposes of the "Highway to Health Conference" the term Hospital in the Home will represent the delivery of acute and post-acute care in the patient's home. This broad definition of Hospital in the Home reflects a national context. (It should be acknowledged that in some states, Hospital in the Home represents substitution for acute in patient care only.)

Hospital in the Home care involves input by clinicians from many different specialties with care being delivered by a workforce with increasing expertise in the management of patients in the community.

This conference presents emerging information from specialist services that impact on HITH care and specifically development in HITH services.
