The Hospital in the Home (HITH) Society of Australasia was proud to present their 4th Annual Scientific Conference on Thursday 17th & Friday 18th November 2011.

Hospital in the Home and the HITH Society

Hospital in the Home is the delivery of acute and post-acute care in the patient’s home as a substitute for being in hospital. HITH care is provided by clinicians from many specialties e.g. general practice, infectious diseases, gerontology, emergency medicine, orthopaedics, cardiology, paediatrics, rehabilitation, respiratory, surgery and haematology.

The HITH Society is the peak body representing doctors, nurses, allied health, and other health care workers in Australia, Asia & the Pacific who provide Hospital in the Home (HITH) care. The Society provides education, promotes networking and through its Executive Council, represents its members by providing expert commentary and lobbying Governments at a local and Federal level on HITH issues.

4th Annual HITH Society of Australasia Scientific Conference Theme

“Bringing it Home” is a metaphor for HITH. It refers to bringing the care and the patient away from a hospital setting, as well as the meaning of “winning” or “bringing home the prize”; taking on the complexity of traditional hospital-type healthcare as a challenge and succeeding in delivering patient-focused care in the community.
